The LANAP® Procedure in Overland Park, KS
LANAP®
(Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)
Basic Steps of the LANAP® Protocol
LANAP® (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is an innovative
new gum disease treatmen
t that removes bacteria and infected tissue from beneath the gums without the use of a scalpel or sutures. By using innovative new laser technology, the laser
gum surgery periodontist
no longer needs to cut away healthy tissue in order to remove bacteria from the gums. Patients report experiencing less pain and less discomfort during the procedure and rarely require pain medication afterward. LANAP® gum disease treatment also reduces healing time and minimizes the risk of infection.
The LANAP® procedure is completed in just a few short steps:
First, the laser gum surgery periodontist will measure the depth of the pockets between the teeth and gums to get an idea of how much loss of attachment has occurred.
Then a laser is used to remove diseased tissue from the area and kill bacteria. Because the laser is not absorbed by bone, root, or healthy tissue, it is more comfortable and less painful than traditional gum disease treatment.
Next, scalers are used to remove deposits of calculus beneath the gum line
The laser is then used one final time to stimulate bone and tissue regrowth and to clot the blood and form a tight seal around the tooth. This creates a safe and stable environment for healing to begin.
Tissue is recompressed against the root surface of the tooth without using sutures as required by traditional gum disease treatment.
Finally, your laser gum surgery periodontist will adjust your bite to ensure there is no significant trauma on any of your teeth.
