Post-Operative LANAP Care

Following laser gum surgery, you should practice proper oral hygiene to prevent future relapse. This involves daily brushing and flossing and regular visits to the dentist. Here are a few additional things you should know about post-operative care:

  • If you are prescribed anti-microbial rinses or medications, take these in accordance with provided instructions.
  • Reduce physical activity for a few days after gum disease treatment to allow for healing to begin.
  • Laser gum surgery rarely requires that pain medication be prescribed. However, you should take two Advil or Ibuprofen every four to six hours for the first day.
  • For the first twenty four hours following your laser gum surgery, you should remain on a liquid diet. Avoid hard or spicy foods for an entire week.
  • Avoid chewing food in the areas that were operated on for at least a week.
  • Changes in color of the tissue is a normal response to laser gum surgery.
  • Keep your mouth clean by rinsing every few hours with warm water or mouthwash. Do not brush or floss until you have been instructed to do so.
  • Avoid applying pressure in the surgery area

After laser gum disease treatment, it is normal to experience soreness along with light bleeding and swelling. It is also normal, up to a year following laser gum surgery, for teeth to become sore or tender. This is part of the healing process. As bone and tissue begin to regenerate, the tenderness will disappear.

LANAP® laser gum surgery is widely regarded as the highest standard in gum disease treatment. With little to no pain, minimal swelling, low chances of recession, LANAP® has many advantages over traditional gum disease treatment. The best part is that almost anybody is eligible for the treatment. To find out more on LANAP® laser gum surgery, you can contact Dr. Lara Tull-Ryan to schedule a consultation today.
